Nature of Design
The Cullum Design Team is very creative in their thinking, but they always base their decisions on proven architectural guidelines.

No one understands better than the Cullum Design Team that architecture is the art and science of design in constructing buildings. It is the marriage of the creative process to a homeowners needs and desires. The design process is not taken lightly at Cullum as each project is analyzed, planned, conceived and inspired by the homeowner, the available lot and the environment surrounding the future site.

We follow these principles of Architecture
1. Architecture requires an appropriate relationship between the site and the structure it accommodates.
2. Architecture should respond to the characteristics of the site; its form, climate, solar position, vegetation and existing structures.
3. Architecture should be placed in the landscape so as to be well seen; conversely, views of the surrounding landscape should be visible from the building.
4. Architecture should serve the purposes it is intended to serve – it should function properly. Function should not be seen narrowly, but as broadly as possible.
5. Architecture should express the purpose it serves.
6. Architecture should use economy of means to achieve its purpose.
7. Architecture should utilize available technologies ingeniously.
8. Architecture must have a human scale, in both its material parts and its spaces and in its interior and its exterior.
9. Architecture should utilize materials appropriately.
10. Architecture should utilize the familiar and commonplace building techniques of its locale.
11. Architecture should be graceful in silhouette and massing.
12. Architecture should exhibit a degree of exuberance; it is an assertive act.
13. Architecture should exhibit a priority or hierarchy of parts.
14. Architecture should offer the human eye a visually rich and interesting field of view.
15. Architecture should establish a relationship between interior and exterior spaces.
16. Architecture should have integrity–honesty and wholeness throughout.
17. Architecture should be expressive of human spiritual aspirations.
18. Every work of architecture should be regarded as an opportunity to demonstrate architecture’s basic principles.
19. Architecture should have an all-embracing and encompassing physical design concept.
20. Architecture should be a place, or spatial forum, that encourages human contact.
